Rotherfield St Martin (RSM) is taking part in the Big Give’s Christmas Challenge 2021 to try to raise £6000 in just 1 week for our Living Well with Dementia Project.
Most of us know of someone whose life is directly affected by dementia. According to the Alzheimer’s Society, there will be an estimated 12,861 people over the age of 65 living with dementia in East Sussex by 2025.
Our Living Well with Dementia project aims to help those affected in our community in three ways:
1. By providing practical support so that someone can continue to enjoy social interactions, visit familiar places and feel safe and welcomed. Additionally we can help with things like signposting to specialist services and planning for future decision making.
2. By providing emotional support for them and their loved ones.
3. By actively raising awareness about dementia in the local community so that we are all well informed and support for individuals is widespread.
All of the above requires a professional dementia champion supported by a team of appropriately trained staff and volunteers.
The first £3000 of donations to our Living Well with Dementia Project will be generously matched by our wonderful pledgers and supporters, Morag Hockin, Neil Page and the Lake House Charitable Foundation, meaning your money will help us provide double the support and services.
Vicky Cheeseman, Manager at Rotherfield St Martin said:
“The Covid Pandemic hit all of us hard, but it has been particularly difficult for those living, or caring for someone, with dementia. This has inspired us to do more to provide essential support and activities to help those affected in our community. This year we’re looking to raise a total of £6000. In order to access the £3000 we have in the matching pot, we need to raise £3000 in online donations. We hope everyone will give generously this Christmas to help us reach our target and enable us to carry on the work we all feel so passionately about.”
You can help us to carry out this work by donating to us in the Big Give Christmas Challenge. All you need to do is visit www.thebiggive.org.uk and search for Rotherfield St Martin between midday on Tuesday 30th November and midday on Tuesday 7th December 2021.
