On Friday 14th October 2022, the Lewy Body Society wrapped a scarf around the Royal Albert Hall seven times for their #AScarfForLewy project, which aims to raise awareness about Dementia with Lewy Bodies (DLB).
The event was organised by Vicky Hands whose husband Peter has LBD and the event saw donors send their scarves to her from as far as the USA. As a result she’s spent the last four months sewing them together to make the mile-long mammoth scarf.
RSM knitters, both seasoned artisans and novices contributed over 170 meters of scarf for the event.
Dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB), also known as Lewy body disease, is the second most frequent cause of age-related neurodegenerative dementia, and is thought to affect approximately 100,000 people in the UK. You can find out more about symptoms and diagnosis at www.lewybody.org/
The scarves are now being distributed to hospitals, women’s refuges, hospices and homeless charities across London.
