RSM joins panel at Tackling Poverty Event

RSM Manager, Vicky Cheeseman was pleased to join a panel of speakers alongside representatives from Hastings Voluntary Action and the Down’s Syndrome Development Trust at a Tackling Poverty discussion event held at the Hastings Museum last week

The event was opened by the Lord-Lieutenant of East Sussex and brought together front line workers from key charities across the county.

The Tackling Poverty report was commissioned by Sussex Community Foundation, a local funder making grants to small charities and voluntary groups working in communities across Sussex.

Their report identified key challenges faced in the county, including an aging population and high levels long term chronic illness.  Vicky highlighted the shame some older people experience in seeking help and explained that one solution RSM has found is by first inviting someone to volunteer.

Sussex Foundation CEO, Kevin Richmond said “While there is a lot of stark data and worrying information in this report, we do not despair.  We see hope every day in the amazing charities that we support and the dedicated and inspiring staff and volunteers that work with them to make Sussex a better place to live for everyone.”
