Thursday 6th June 2024 was the 80th Anniversary of the D-Day Landings in Normandy, which marked the beginning of the end of the Second World War.
Our community came together with a number of events and activities to commemorate the events of 1944, never forgetting those that lost their lives.
If you visited the Village Hall, you would have been greeted by our “bunker” – displaying various articles, ornaments, gas masks and sand bags. The whole area provoked a lot of discussion and memories to those who were children in the 1940s.
Thank you to everyone who helped make these events so special, including Cook in Tunbridge Wells, Rotherfield Parish Council, Rotherfield Bonfire Society, Rotherfield School.
On Monday 3rd June we held a party with a Cockney Singalong and Wartime Tea!
We were delighted to see so many people enjoying singing old familiar songs including pupils from Rotherfield Primary School who danced the Hokey Cokey!
On Thursday 6th June, National Fish & Chip day coincided with D-Day anniversary, so we served Fish & Chips at our Luncheon Club. Beer shandy was provided by the Parish Council and everyone enjoyed a special sponge pudding prepared by the WI.
